We build in a room that also has to be a room. The brief was selfish: a proper bench when we needed one, and a wall we could walk past the rest of the time.
What we did
A wall-mounted bench that folds flat to 110mm, with a leg that swings out and locks, and a top stiff enough to plane on. Every part is something a person could re-make with hand tools and a hardware run.
The outcome
Two years of daily abuse and the hinge line is still true. We published the measured drawings so anyone with the same problem can skip our mistakes — of which there were, for the record, several.
